Paul Pogba has been banned for 4 years following a positive doping test. The request of the anti-doping prosecutor’s office was accepted: now, in addition to his contract with Juventus (which is superseded by the imposed period of suspension), the French midfielder’s career is in the balance. As he turns 31, the footballer is faced with profound reflections on his future, considering that he has also just returned from a few seasons of almost inactivity due to well-known physical problems.

POSITIVE FOR DOPING

The Frenchman tested positive for doping after Udinese-Juventus on 20 August 2023: the confirmation of the counter analyzes triggered the procedure for the maxi disqualification. Now the ball passes to Juventus, who will evaluate the management of his contract: Pogba, from the moment of his disqualification (as per company policy) has been banned from attending Continassa and placed on a minimum salary regime (around 2 thousand euros). His current contract would expire on June 30, 2026, but is at this point invalidated by disqualification.

THE FACTS

There couldn’t have been a worse epilogue for the midfielder’s return to Juventus. Since the summer of 2022, when he returned to Turin as a free agent, he has been the protagonist of one incident after another: often, also having direct responsibilities. First the lateral meniscus injury during the 2022 summer tour, then the choice to postpone the operation only to subsequently find himself forced to do it. Out of the World Cup, on the field for a few moments at the end of last season and in a false restart last summer. Pogba would have taken supplements which in Italy are not allowed for athletes: for this reason the testosterone value was found to be over the limit.
