The new red and white coach comments on the technical change and sets the first priorities: recovering condition and preparing for the match in Belgrade
In the aftermath of Ettore Messina’s sudden farewell – a step backwards after a complicated start and three consecutive knockouts between the championship and the Euroleague – Olimpia Milano handed over the technical leadership to Peppe Poeta, who returned in the summer with a three-year agreement and was indicated as the natural heir of his predecessor.
“I respect Messina’s decision”

The former playmaker, now in his first experience as head coach, welcomed the investiture with clear words to Sky Sport’s microphones: “I respect Messina’s decision. I am excited and full of enthusiasm for this new adventure”. Let’s look immediately at the pitch, however, because Poeta also analyzed the state of the group: “The physical condition of the various players is different, there is no homogeneity from this point of view. Now we are ‘recovering’ someone”.
head to Maccabi already
—
There will be no time to settle in: tomorrow at 6pm, in the setting of the Aleksandar Nikolic Hall in Belgrade, Olimpia will face Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Euroleague, a baptism of fire for the new head coach. And Poeta does not hide the value of the opponent: “They are a strong team, they have great offensive potential and they run a lot.” Meanwhile, Messina – at the helm of the club since 2019 and also President of Basketball Operations – will remain as personal advisor to president Leo Dell’Orco. One page closes, another opens: now it’s up to Poeta to lead Milan out of the storm.
