Presenter Tuija Pehkonen and snowboarder Eero Ettala and their families moved north of Helsinki to Kuusamo for the winter.
Now Pehkonen tells in the new one Best regards, Tuija in the episode of the podcast, what thoughts did the winter in Kuusamo and more specifically in Ruka teach and what they plan to do next. The family of Pehkonen and Ettala includes two sons who were born in September 2020 and August 2023.
The family returned to Helsinki on May Day. Before moving to the north, Pehkonen had not thought that the family could even live in a smaller town, but now his thoughts have changed. In the podcast, he describes to Ruka that the move was one of the best life decisions for their family.
Pehkonen and Ettala have also had discussions about where they plan to live in the future.
– Fortunately, we are pretty much on the same page that such big decisions should not be made on the spur of the moment in one direction or the other.
– We don’t decide now where our children will go to school or where we will live for the next few years, he continues.

At the moment, the family’s intention is to live in the Helsinki home again and at the same time think about what they will do next. According to Pehkonen, he has been thinking about moving away from the center of Helsinki to a quieter area, for example Espoo, Sipoo or Porvoo. The family has also considered buying a home from Ruka. In particular, nature and outdoor activities are attractive in Kuusamo.
– It’s also a really big thing that the older child has found his soul landscape on that slope and he would just like to count, count and count from day to day and from hour to hour.
The children’s father, Eero Ettala, is also a snowboarder by profession.
Pehkonen reveals in the podcast that the family plans to return to live in Ruka next winter.
– We want to do this again, play a little more time and at the same time increase the stakes. That’s why we are currently running an insane search for our next home for Ruka.
The home’s criteria have also changed. Whereas last winter’s home had to be close to the services of the Ruka ski resort, next year’s home could also be further away.
– And we’ve been looking at plots here “just for fun”, as Eero and I always say. That is, just to see the supply in that way half-truly, but yes, I’m always pulling on the buying and construction pants, Pehkonen reveals in the episode.
Pehkonen is happy that Ettala is not as quick in her movements, so the couple has no plans to build for now.
