Podcast: Can Dog Wool Replace Wool?

This We are Fashion Revolution podcast asks if dogs are better sheep.

People have been making clothing out of animal hair for thousands of years – not least because of the impressive properties of the sustainable material. But there are also downsides. Animals are still tortured for wool production and chemicals are sometimes used in processing. That doesn’t have to be the case, say the founders of Modus Intarsia and YarnSustain, Ann Catrin Schönrock and Franziska Uhl. They are committed to saving an unused resource that ends up thousands of times in German rubbish bins every day: the combed out undercoat of dogs. The textile start-up uses it to produce the super-soft Chiengora®, which can be compared to cashmere.
