Pochettino didn’t want Messi and Co. at all

According to a media report from England, Mauricio Pochettino will leave Paris Saint-Germain early in the summer. One of the reasons: discrepancies in signings of stars like Lionel Messi and other transfers.

When Mauricio Pochettino took over the job of Thomas Tuchel at PSG in early 2021, the Argentine signed a contract until 2023. But Pochettino will probably not stay in Paris until then – despite a clear lead in the domestic championship. Because, as with Tuchel, the relationship between those responsible and the coach broke down long before the end of the contract.

At least that’s what the English “Mirror” claims and comes up with further details. Accordingly, the Argentine is said to have fallen out with sports director Leonardo. On the one hand, Pochettino’s transfer wishes were not fulfilled. The main aim was to reduce the bloated squad of the French capital club. But that hardly happened in the last transfer phases.

On the other hand, Leonardo kept up the pace and brought in players that the 49-year-old Argentinian didn’t want at all. At the forefront: the highly acclaimed transfer of Lionel Messi, who left FC Barcelona after more than two decades and joined PSG.

In addition to Messi, former Real star Sergio Ramos and goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who came from AC Milan, are said to have been signed against the will of the PSG coach.

Pochettino to England, Zidane to PSG?

In addition to the trio, former BVB pro Achraf Hakimi, Georginio Wijnaldum (Liverpool FC), Danilo Pereira (FC Porto) and Nuno Mendes (on loan from Sporting) came to the Seine.

Should Pochettino and PSG actually part ways, the coach will probably not remain unemployed for long. Because with Manchester United, a club from the Premier League, which Pochettino knows well from his time at Tottenham Hotspur, is already scratching its hooves. According to the English media, the Red Devils absolutely want to sign the Argentine.

And Paris Saint-Germain already has a desired successor in mind. Zinedine Zidane has been traded in France for a long time.
