Plan Van Peteghem fails: core cabinet does not make a deal on tax reform

The core cabinet has not been able to reach a deal on the federal government’s fiscal reform. “The prime minister has determined that no agreement is possible on a tax reform without it seriously burdening the budget,” said Alexander De Croo’s cabinet on Tuesday evening. Avoiding that aggravation was precisely one of the prime minister’s intended goals. Finance Minister Vincent Van Peteghem (CD&V), initiator of the reform, is disappointed: “Not everyone is able to leave their own trenches”. The left-wing coalition partners (in)directly blame MR for stalling the consultations.
