A number of cafes on the Vrijthof in Maastricht are struggling with flooding after a burst water pipe.

It appears that an underground pipe has burst on Wednesday evening that runs under the terraces of the cafes.

Water cafe influxed
According to a correspondent, the water is on several terraces and it has also flowed into at least one cafe. The owner of the business has therefore decided to close the cafe. The terraces are cordoned off.

main valve
Employees of Waterleiding Maatschappij Limburg (WML) are on site to solve the problems. They have turned off the main tap to prevent more water from coming up. The pavement is broken open to detect the leak.

Due to the pipe break, the catering establishments on the Vrijthof are without water. It is not yet known when the issues will be resolved.
