More and more sports clubs in Drenthe are moving away from cash payments in the sports canteen. “A logical development,” says Anne Prins, association advisor of Sport Drenthe.

On behalf of Sport Drenthe, Prins advises sports associations on all kinds of matters. This can range from applying for subsidy schemes to setting up training programs.

“We do not interfere with the money flows in the canteen, but we can advise on this, you also notice that clubs can arrange this well themselves. The only question we ever received about this related to membership cards with a certain credit on them” , says Prins.

Football association Bargeres will stop paying in cash in April, it reports Dagblad van het Noorden this morning. The football club is not alone in this.

A tour of various sports clubs in Drenthe also shows that many of these associations have their own view on this. Rik Rolink, treasurer at SC Erica, is certain. “Cash is always available with us. There was never any question of taking it out in the first place.”
