A motorist from Oosterhout was arrested on Wednesday night after a police chase on the Mierloseweg near Lierop. Officers saw the motorist driving along the Steemertseweg in Lierop around a quarter past one at night and decided to check him.

The driver handed the officers his driver’s license and the rental contract for the car he was driving. But when the officers decided to conduct a saliva and breath test due to the odor of cannabis they smelled in the car, the suspect closed the car door window and refused further cooperation.

Full throttle
Officers then discovered that the driver had already been given a 24-hour driving ban in Venlo earlier that evening due to suspicion of using narcotics.

When the suspect was informed that he was being arrested, he refused to cooperate at all. When the officers threatened to smash the door window if he did not open his car, he took off at full speed. The chase then ensued, which soon ended on the Mierloseweg. The driver was arrested there under mild resistance.

Interrogation
At the police station in Helmond, the driver repeatedly insulted the officers involved. When he was released, he was urged to leave quietly and not to shout and insult the officers again.

But when the driver walked out of the gate, he picked up his phone and – probably while filming – started insulting the officers again. He was then arrested again after being free for less than a minute. This time he was detained in Eindhoven, where he will be interrogated on Thursday.

Pile of fines
The man received two citations for insulting the officers. In addition, he received fines for refusing the breath test, refusing the saliva test, ignoring a stop sign, a report for driving during a driving ban and a new driving ban of 24 hours.
