Pilar Fernández: Blessed Clay artistic expression – Brand

Pilar, what were the beginnings of your business like?

I started at a very young age, at 11 years old, after being diagnosed with Epilepsy because I felt the need to express and download everything I was going through through art.

Ceramics allowed me to learn to disconnect my mind and connect with my body. In 2011 I founded Bendito Barro, a stoneware ceramics workshop dedicated to teaching, tableware production, and creative and design consulting.

Currently, I choose to work mostly in large-scale formats, sculptures and murals, which are what I enjoy the most. I also assist other colleagues in the production of ceramic work and I still continue teaching.

I had the opportunity to work with Desiree de Ridder in the construction of clay ovens and production of works; Also, I collaborated with artist Nina Surel in the creation of a 25-foot-long low-relief ceramic mural; and in turn, I worked alongside Gabriel Chaile in the construction of work and restoration of other previous works.

What characteristics do your works have?

With my art, I celebrate the connection between humans and the environment, highlighting the essence of working with the body and valuing the ceramic process as an act of patience and creativity. My work reflects the importance of using local and sustainable materials, remembering the cyclical nature of life and the connection between creation and sustainability. I see art as a genuine expression that goes beyond the visual, communicating emotions in a unique way.

What is your professional projection?

I want ceramics to regain its position in the public sphere, revitalizing its importance. I seek to raise awareness about the ceramic process, revealing times and skills for a deeper appreciation.

In terms of environmental care, my dream includes highlighting the benefits of the ceramic process, conveying how working with local and sustainable materials nourishes creativity and has positive impacts on the environment. I envision a future where ceramics are respectful of nature, inspiring the community to consider it as a conscious artistic medium that contributes to global well-being, in line with the circular economy and ethical principles.
