The municipality of De Wolden has bought out a pig farmer along the Buitenhuizerweg in Ruinerwold. This is necessary to build homes there in the future. The municipality does not reveal how much money it cost.
Local politicians agreed to the investment tonight. The amount of odor emanating from the farm now makes building houses in the area prohibited. The emissions might not be good for the environment.
Because the municipality has now purchased the land and the pig farm is disappearing, construction would soon be possible. With the money the farmer receives, he could continue his activities elsewhere.
There are plans for housing, especially on the south side of Kerkweg in Ruinerwold. It is located close to the Buitenhuizerweg. It previously became clear that a project developer wants to build 125 houses there.
However, municipal councilors have received a letter from people in the area who are not happy with the arrival of the homes. Especially because it is a major expansion. They filed complaints in early 2024, but received no response.
Henk van IJzendoorn of GroenLinks wondered why these people have not heard anything yet. Councilor Gerrie Hempen (Municipal Interests) announced that the first developer has dropped out. “The project is therefore at a standstill.”
According to her, that is why no response was sent. A new developer has now been found who wants to take on the housing project. “Then the project will start again and we will return to the complaints from local residents,” says Hempen.
