Pieterse soon had a nice lead, but at the end the Dutch champion Lucinda Brand (Baloise Glowi Lions) came on strong. Pieterse also remained clear in the final and was thus able to make the victory gesture in great detail.
“I actually already had a doomsday scenario like in Baal in the back of my mind. There Brand also lost to Van Empel at the end. I knew that I certainly could not delay. When I still had a nice lead after the Herygersduin, it dawned on me because it was in. I will take this with me to the national championship next week,” says an ambitious Pieterse.
