Los Angeles – The Morrison Hotel in Los Angeles, where The Doors photographed the iconic album cover of their eponymous album, is no more. A devastating fire ripped through the four-story building, which had been empty except for about twenty homeless people for ten years.

Only: the receptionist didn’t feel like having a photo shoot with a pair of rock gods that had fallen up. And so the group had to find another way in. After taking some pictures in front of the window, when they saw that the receptionist had disappeared, they ran inside, plopped down in front of the window and Henry was able to do his work. Quick. Very quickly. “I was able to finish one roll of film, after which we were asked to leave,” he said earlier. If you look closely, you can see the shadow of the photographer in the background. And the halo rising above The Doors, according to Diltz, would have been the elevator light.

Morrison Hotel was not only one of their best albums, but also, because of the artwork, one of their most recognizable. The gritty image also captures the spirit of the record very well. It is about an America that is far from glamorous and polished. On the back of Morrison Hotel, there is an image of Hard Rock Café, a old bar, a few blocks away, where The Doors went to relax after their adventure in the hotel. By the way, the back was not missed by two Britons. The big Doors fans used the name for their first Hard Rock Café in 1971. A café that would later grow into a restaurant chain with 175 locations in more than 70 countries.
<h2 class=”DetailBodyBlocks__subhead “>Facade to museum?

On social media, fans are pleading for the building to be restored. Others want the shop window, with the iconic letters, to be preserved and housed in a museum. And Henry Diltz hopes for a recovery. “It’s such a historic place, a historic name,” he said. “I hope it doesn’t go away.” John Densmore, the band’s drummer, also told The New York Times that he had visited the building after the AIDS Healthcare Foundation bought it two years ago and that he was sure Mr. Morrison “would have been pleased” with it. the plan to repurpose the building as affordable housing.

</ div>
Read more below the photo.
<div class=”DetailArticleImage DetailArticleImage__square”>
<img src=”/images/445×445/filters:format(jpeg):quality(50)/cdn-kiosk-api.telegraaf.nl/e92603ae-c546-11ef-8c2b-c61c9fc60876.jpg” srcset=”/images/445×445/filters:format(jpeg):quality(50)/cdn-kiosk-api.telegraaf.nl/e92603ae-c546-11ef-8c2b-c61c9fc60876.jpg, /images/890×890/filters:format(jpeg):quality(50)/cdn-kiosk-api.telegraaf.nl/e92603ae-c546-11ef-8c2b-c61c9fc60876.jpg 2x” loading=”lazy” class=”FluidImage”/>

The building was ironically also used as a training ground for firefighters. But a repurposing may not happen. The building is so damaged – the flames lasted for two hours – that it will probably be razed to the ground. Fortunately, there were no injuries. About twenty homeless people were able to escape on their own. The fire brigade had to evacuate three people. What remains are the beautiful images of Henry Diltz (86).
