Is Geesbrug a clean village? “Well no, not really!” Presley says without a doubt. That is why the superstructure students of CBS go out today, armed with skewers and garbage bags. As part of the National Cleaning Day, they are committed to a cleaner environment and that starts in their own schoolyard.

Soon the garbage bags flow full. “We mainly found plastic,” Mark shouts. But the waste is not their own. “No, no. We just find that everywhere,” he adds. In addition to plastic, the children also find banana peels, pieces of wood and a striking number of fast Jelle packaging.

Fortunately they are well prepared. Well, almost all. Mark has no cleaning gloves, but his goalkeeper gloves. “They work just as well,” he laughs.

The children are well aware of why they should do this. “Then animals cannot eat the waste and they will die less quickly,” explains Tessa. Teacher Fokkelien Dijkman hopes that this clean -up campaign is also a lesson for the future. “Everyone may throw something away by accident or secretly, but all those little things together will be a big mess, we hope that they think about it better in the future.”

The children are enthusiastic and unstoppable. “Soon we will go on the cycle path and further into the village,” says Bjorn. Tomorrow is the official national clean -up day, but the students of CBS De Wegwijzer have already contributed.
