It concerns the ‘Still Life with Guitar’ painted in 1919. The oil painting on canvas has a value of 700,000 dollars, which is almost 600,000 euros. It was one of fifty works to be exhibited on October 3 by the foundation of the CajaGranada Cultural Center.
All works come from private collections, the foundation told Spanish newspaper Ideal. The Picasso was owned by a collector from Madrid. He had lent the still life, which has an area of 12.7 cm by 9.8 cm, to the foundation.

The night in the van
Spanish media suggest that the drivers would have spent the night in the town of Deifontes, while the drivers would continue straight from Madrid to Granada. The van arrived at 10am that morning. The contents were checked during unloading.
Despite the fact that some of the carefully packaged works were not correctly numbered, making “an exact check” impossible, the delivery was signed off and the van and its crew took off. By mid-afternoon, the cultural center staff discovered that the artwork was not included in the shipment.
