Photographer Helmut Newton exposes himself in Heist

Helmut Newton was born in Berlin in 1920 and died in 2004. He is considered a pioneer in fashion photography and was employed by famous fashion magazines including Vogue. In his personal style, he regularly depicted naked women, but clothes can also be seen in the photos in the exhibition. In the 50s and 60s he reinvented the genre of fashion photography and had to clear classic studio images for scenography.

The legend in the world of the sensitive plate also managed to photograph many celebrities. Among others, Mick Jagger, Catherine Deneuve and Andy Warhol passed in review. The photo of Warhol shows the artist apparently deceased, but it is actually a fashion image. The American also wears a Yves Saint Laurent jacket that appeared in a French fashion magazine.

If you want to admire the ‘Legacy’ exhibition, you can visit the brand new Ravelingen room, near Heist station, until 25 September.
