Phenomenal Verstappen takes pole position with a small difference at GP Zandvoort

Max Verstappen has managed to start at the front tomorrow at the Grand Prix of Zandvoort. The Limburger recorded the fastest time in qualifying: 1:10.342. The difference in time with Charles Leclerc was only 0.021 (!).

Verstappen was also slightly faster than number three Carlos Sainz (0.092). His teammate Sergio Pérez made a spin and only just managed to dodge the wall. The Mexican will therefore start tomorrow from fifth place.

In Q1, the first qualifying round, the Red Bull driver set the fastest time: 1.11.317. He was too quick for Leclerc and Sainz with that. The second qualifying round was stopped for a few minutes because someone from the stands threw an orange torch onto the course.

The pitcher has since been removed from the stands by the organization, Viaplay reported. Then Verstappen was third, but he had saved the best for last. In Q3, the Limburger crossed the line after 1:10,342, which means that – just like last year – he starts from pole position.

Bad preparation

The preparation for Verstappen was not ideal. During the first free practice, his car stopped after eight laps. After that, the Limburger did not play anymore, his car was repaired between the training sessions. Verstappen was able to appear at the start of the second free practice and finished eighth. He finished third in the final practice this afternoon. The official race starts tomorrow from 3 p.m. in Zandvoort.
