Max Verstappen takes pole position in Zandvoort

Max Verstappen won qualifying in Zandvoort on Saturday. As a result, he will start in pole position on Sunday during the Dutch GP in Formula 1. The F1 world champion was slightly faster than Charles Leclerc during qualifying on the Dutch circuit in the third and final lap.

The 24-year-old Verstappen set a time of 1.10.342 and was 0.021 seconds faster than Leclerc. Carlos Sainz finished third and Lewis Hamilton followed. After the race, Verstappen said it felt “unbelievable”. He referred to yesterday, when he had a “difficult day.” During the training day, he stopped after ten minutes in the first session due to a broken gearbox. In the second round he did not get further than eighth time.

Verstappen won the Dutch GP last year, which was then held for the first time since 1985. He also started from pole position in 2021. The race starts at 3 p.m. on Sunday. It is expected that the stands and dunes around the circuit in Zandvoort will then be full with at least 105,000 spectators.
