Pharmacies are preparing for a strike: ‘First concerned phone calls are pouring in’

The first concerned phone calls are already coming in at Apotheek de Vaart in New Amsterdam. From Saturday, pharmacists will be on strike for nine days and people will not be able to go there. “The phone continues to ring and will continue to do so in the coming days.”

Pharmacist Stephan Bontekoning, and member of the Drenthe Pharmacists Cooperative, understands the concerns well. However, he would like to emphasize that people who need medicine urgently always receive help. “It is best for people to check with their own pharmacy how this works.”

The strike is particularly difficult for people who want to get a repeat prescription. “If they look in the drawer at home and they see that the supply of medicine is running out, then they might get into trouble next week, yes.”
