Petroleum prices are skyrocketing, fishing vessels are shutting down

The Nieuwpoort 86 is the first ship to throw in the towel. In the Netherlands, 45 ships have already stopped working this week. The price of the fish will also rise in the shops. But that’s not a solution either.

Last night was probably the last trip for the time being: 1,000 liters of gas oil burned. The result: about a hundred kilos of sole and some residual fish such as flounder plaice for which they get little. And they are also concerned in the fish trade and wholesale. Fish is already not a cheap product and there is a limit to what the consumer is willing and able to pay.
