It is represented by the fifth generation of Mini Coopers to gasavailable in versions identifiable with letters C And S for the model Performance Enhancedthe watershed between the history of the brand, celebrated above all in its shapes and design, and the future of a brand ready to offer a renewed and completely electric range by 2030. Just a few months after the debut on the market of the battery-powered model, a full electric identified with the code J01 and with an autonomy declared by the house of 400 kilometers, the company owned by the group BMW presented what will be the latest three-door model powered by a combustion engine a choice of three or four cylinders.

mini cooper: exteriors, versions and design

The unmistakable style of the brand also leaves a profound mark on the new version of a Mini Cooper renewed especially at the front, with a new octagonal grille with filigree contours which interfaces with the full LED daytime running lights and the brand’s new light signature. There are also innovations regarding the side mirrors, less rounded and closer to a rectangular shape, and for a rear exhaust that is no longer visible. But from the parts of a flexible trunk ranging from 210 up to a volume of 800 litres placed at the rear of the car, it is above all the design that changes, with the traditional aerodynamic spoiler placed just above the rear window which is reflected on the continuous horizontal line that joins the redesigned matrix lights. Also in this case theinspiration comes from the new electric version, with the symbols and new proposals that find their strong point in the brand’s philosophy, “maximum driving pleasure with a minimum ecological footprint”. The contrast between the short bonnet and the long wheelbase brings the new Cooper closer to Mini history, with the version S which gains in details and symbols on the bodywork but which, in the front part, loses the air intake on the bonnet. As regards safety, they are present on this new model twelve ultrasonic sensors that support driver assistance systems.

mini cooper: interiors and technology

A renewed steering wheel, an elegant and minimalist design and a new high resolution round Oled display, with a touch screen and a diameter of 240 mm, which represents the meeting point between the clean lines of the interior of the new Mini Cooper and the on-board technology. The inspiration, in this case, is the historical model, albeit with more space available and with a panoramic glass roof which guarantees more light in the passenger compartment. From the Mini toggle bars it is possible to manage the most important driving functions, from the parking brake to the gear selector, up to the start/stop button, the driving mode selector and the volume control, while instead of the gear selector in the central console there is a new 2.0 wireless smartphone charging system. In this new version the Mini Interaction Unit has been moved closer to the driver, while vehicle-relevant information, such as speed and fuel consumption, is displayed at the top of the screen, with functions being arranged horizontally as widgets in the main menu.

mini cooper: engines, horsepower, consumption

For the latest version powered by a combustion engine, Mini decided to propose the thrusters 1.5 Turbo 3 cylinder B38 with 156 HP and 230 Nm of torque and the 2.0 Turbo 4 cylinder B48 with 204 HP and 300 Nm of torque. These are two tested options which, according to what was declared by the company, respectively provide a combined fuel consumption of 6.55.9 l/100kmwith combined CO2 emissions of 146 – 133 g/km in the WLTP cycle and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds, while the second option stands at 6.76.1 l/100kmwith combined CO2 emissions of 150 – 138 g/km on the WLTP cycle and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds.

mini cooper: features and prices

The new Mini Cooper focuses heavily on customizationas evidenced by the trim variants Essential, Classic, Favorite And Jcw which guarantee a large number of variants available. In addition to various paintworks planned for the bodywork and interior upholstery, the company owned by the BMW group has also increased the possible combinations thanks to the four colors of the roof, with their relative contrasts. In this case it should be noted that with the package Favorite Trim the design SprayTech of the characteristic roof Multitone guarantees a three-color gradient. Also for aluminum rims, from 16 to 18 inches, new aerodynamically optimized designs are available.
