Peter van der Vorst has gone on sabbatical after the terrible drama surrounding RTL Tonight. Apparently it has all become too much for him and the television boss needs some rest. “Arrogant.”
The mess that Peter van der Vorst has left behind as television boss of RTL is gigantic. He destroyed the late evening of flagship RTL 4 by not aiming for his great TV talent Renze Klamer, but for a generic program entitled RTL Tonight. We all know how that ended: sunk like the TV Titanic.
Peter on sabbatical
DPG Media, the new owner of RTL, could no longer tolerate Peter’s bumbling and promoted him away. Officially he has now been given a better position within the company, but that position is apparently so important that Peter can immediately afford a sabbatical. Hilarious.
We don’t hear from Peter at all anymore. And that raised questions for TV authority Tina Nijkamp. “I just checked with RTL. Peter is currently on sabbatical. RTL just confirmed me,” she wrote analysis channel.
Lots of criticism
Tina is not sorry that Peter has been criticized for the failure of RTL Tonight, as she reveals in the section In The Walkways. “I feel very sorry for Humberto and Beau. I certainly think so. I think they are nice guys. I feel bad for the people who came up with it… No, that’s what I think: you didn’t listen to the criticism.”
Peter was too proud to intervene. “There has been a lot of criticism, right from the start, not even from one person, not just from me, but from many people who know about TV. In any case, there was a lot of criticism, and they didn’t do anything with it. I think that has a certain arrogance and then I don’t think: how sad, or something.”
Misjudged
Ultimately, Peter is a failing TV boss, Tina thinks. “Peter van der Vorst completely misjudged it, together with Carlo van Lienden, and I think those two are responsible.”
Will we ever see these gentlemen in high positions again? “I wonder about that. Carlo will do something else within RTL, I understand. Something with podcasts. And Peter will come back, but for now Peter Lubbers is at the helm.”
Summer replacement
Peter’s successor, also called Peter – Peter Lubbers, will now work with Renze Klamer as the new figurehead of RTL 4’s late evening.
The search is on for someone to replace him during the offseason. “I’m guessing it will be Welmoed Sijtsma. I think they want a woman after all. My feeling says so,” Tina concludes.
