It was a big surprise yesterday: Eva Jinek returns to the public broadcaster after four years on RTL 4. RTL’s TV boss Peter van der Vorst, the man who gave the presenter the chance to cash in almost 5 million euros (!) over a period of four years, also knew nothing. And that while he lives in the street with the talk show diva.
Peter disappointed
TV connoisseur Rob Goossens tells in RTL Boulevard that the news came unexpectedly for Peter. “RTL was also surprised. They only heard this afternoon that she is making the switch. Of course they have three other talk show hosts, but it’s still a small robbery, because this was the biggest name of the four.”
Rob has spoken to Peter. “He said that he is disappointed, but he can only respect the decision. So they talked for a while this afternoon. He therefore only heard it this afternoon and the editors were only informed afterwards. That is the strange thing: she has already had her last broadcast in principle.”
Statement
Peter is diplomatic in his official statement: “We have worked very well with Eva over the past four years and we would have liked to continue that cooperation. We are sorry, but respect her choice. In recent years we have established a strong late night programming. (…) We wish Eva every success at AvroTros.”
It would be a dagger from Eva if she also brings her producer Ewart van der Horst with her. He came with her to RTL 4 four years ago and completely decorated the late evening of that channel. Will he also work for Eva again at the NPO? Rob: “That’s a very good question. I assume so, because she is very close to him.”
Millions
It is not inconceivable that Peter and RTL feel a bit used. Eva has been on holiday a lot for four years, but has enriched herself enormously during that period, so that she can now take up even more hobbies. “She can now afford to make another decision,” says Fons van Westerloo in De Telegraaf.
And media journalist Jarco Kriek tweets vilely: “Eva Jinek looks back with pleasure at the time at RTL? I think this could have been better: Eva looks with pleasure at her bank account, which suddenly has seven figures for the decimal point due to her time at RTL.
Same street
Story boss Guido den Aantrekker wonders whether there is now tension between Eva and Peter, especially since they will continue to meet regularly in Abcoude, where they are virtually neighbors.
Guidos in Show news: “I think it is very funny that she lives in the same street as Peter van der Vorst in that village near Amsterdam. Of course that was once very nice because Peter brought her to RTL, but I don’t know what the atmosphere is like in the street now…”
