There were already critical voices in the run-up to Peter Pannekoek’s latest New Year’s Eve conference, because the joke density in this edition would be lower than we are used to from him. TV critic Victor Vlam watched the cabaret performance last night and agrees; he sat in front of the TV, disappointed.
Joke density
Victor finds it very disappointing. “Peter Pannekoek has very strong performances to his name. But this New Year’s Eve conference is not one of them. It is just not very funny. The joke density is too low,” he writes. X.
What went wrong? “The fundamental mistake of Peter Pannekoek is that he had too many substantive ambitions. He wanted to give a moralistic message. But he is not a pastor. He is just a joker. I should have focused more on that.”
Laughter track
Peter’s tone also irritates Victor. “Peter Pannekoek would have done well to vary his style a bit more. It’s all very hyped up. That’s a very tiring hour and a half.”
According to the critic, there were not enough real bursts of laughter in the audience. “It seems as if the laughter from the audience has been supplemented with a laugh track at Peter Pannekoek’s New Year’s Eve conference.”
‘No one claps’
Lianne, one of his followers, agrees with Victor’s observation. “It’s always the same. And no one claps.”
The TV critic then: “That’s right. It sometimes sounds unnatural, especially in the first half hour.”
One John: “BnnVara apparently has no confidence in it and they just installed a laugh track underneath. Toddler Pannekoek might be fun with a roast, but this tends towards the disgrace of Martijn Koning at the time. 🤧”
Screamer
More viewers feel like Peter used a laugh track. “Humor is personal, but Peter Pannekoek doesn’t touch me. A shoutout without convincing power. The laugh track mounted underneath only makes it worse. This is not entertainment but pure torture,” sneers a certain Johan.
