Perugia-Benevento and the 3-2 goal under investigation for sporting offense

A goal under investigation in Serie B that has just crossed the finish line at the end of the regular season. What allowed Perugia to win the match against Benevento 3-2 in the fourth minute of added time of the second half on May 19th. The federal prosecutor has opened a proceeding “in relation to the methods of scoring, in added time, the third goal on the last day, with the hypothesis of a sporting offense”.

A very heavy accusation. The investigations have already begun given that “the video of the match has already been acquired and in the next few days the members involved in the episode will also be heard”. The goal did not change the verdict of the final classification which led to the relegation to Serie C of the Umbrians. He could have done it if Brescia hadn’t drawn in Palermo: a defeat of the Lombards would have brought them to Serie C given that the balance of the direct clashes was in favor of Perugia who would have gone to the playouts. We are at the beginning of the investigation, so any forecast on what could happen in terms of sports justice appears premature.
