Two months after his own band had submitted a $ 10 million lawsuit against him, Perry Farrell reacted with a counterclaim. It states to “miss the group to put facts that represent a foundation of the lawsuit”.
Farrell counters the lawsuit
According to documents that are available, Farrell lists 35 defense strategies. This includes allegations that Navarro has “unclean hands” that “no sufficient facts for a lawsuit” would be called and there is no “reasonable care to reduce the alleged damage”.
Farrell also emphasizes that he acted “in good faith and without malice”. He calls for the reimbursement of his legal and procedural costs. “Our lawsuit speaks for itself,” said Christopher Frost, lawyer of Navarro, Eric Avery and Stephen Perkins, opposite the Rolling Stone. “The fact that Farrell reacts like this does not stop. Rather, it shows how strong the allegations of Dave, Eric and Stephen are.”
Tour start with great hopes
The 2024 Reunion tour of Jane’s Addiction-for the first time since 2010 with all four founding members-began promising. “We play smaller clubs, have new material, fewer show effects and want to be more atmospheric and experimental,” enthused Navarro in August 2024 compared to the Rolling Stone.
The first European shows were celebrated. But in the United States, Farrell noticed through erratic behavior. On September 10, 2024 in New York, he was hardly able to sing, three days later he hit Navarro while “Ocean Size” in Boston. The video went viral.
Raster and tour can
The next day, Farrell apologized on Instagram: “My freak led to unacceptable behavior. I take full responsibility.” But a few days later the tour ended.
In July, Navarro, Avery and Perkins sued their singer for assault, emotional damage, negligence, breach of contract and breach of duty. “Due to the sudden outbreaks of violence and Farrell’s inability to function as a front man, the band can no longer exist,” says the 36-page application.
Serious allegations and no future
“This is a clear attempt to isolate and bullyed Perry,” countered Farrell’s lawyer Miles Cooley. “The lawsuit only came because they learned about our legal approach. They want to represent themselves as ‘the good’, but the truth looks different.”
Dave Navarro said “Guitar Player” in May: “The argument on the stage has destroyed the band’s life forever. There is no chance of ever playing together again.”
