The theater makers of Peergroep are there early. At festival Oerol They grab the chance to do something different than usual. The Drents Theater Company will be on the Terschellinger beach early in the morning from next weekend.
Occasionally a visitor will rub his sleep out of his eyes. The actors are already in the starting blocks at half past four Amphidroom, With the decor the North Sea beach. It is one of the performances that can be seen on Oerol. The location arts festival on Terschelling attracts between 50,000 and 55,000 people annually.
“Fortunately, you can do something crazy on Oerol,” explains Froukje de Jong of PeerGroup. Hence the choice to do the execution at sunrise. “The show was really made for this place. And that at a magical time. That makes us very happy.”
They are uplifting texts after a turbulent period for PeerGroup. The continued existence of the theater grouping was uncertain after a government subsidy of 485,000 euros dropped out. This did not mean the end for Peergroep, although the organization had to shrink. “That was very sour,” De Jong looks back.
This year the shoulders went down again. PeerGroup has to work with fewer people and a smaller budget, but the implementation would rather not do concessions. “It took adjustments, but the challenge that is added also gives an incentive. I dare to say that we are really behind this project,” De Jong refers to Amphidroom.
The performance crosses the border between technology and nature. With the umbrella question the importance of technology, and how to make the world we can and should make.
For those who have not booked a departure to Terschelling, PeerGroup has even more in the pipeline. Work is already being done behind the scenes Grain/3epho, A performance that tells the story of Three generations on the same piece of arable land in Ukraine. The theater piece will premiere on September 20.
