De Matías will continue within the working group of the Olympic discipline project supporting Las Leonas7s and Los Leones7s
The technical direction of the Spanish Federation Rugby (RES) and Pedro de Matias They have decided by mutual agreement to step aside the coach as Selector of the Women’s Sevens. The sports management of the Federation works with the idea of proposing to the Valencian coach continue within the working group of the project of the Olympic discipline giving support to Las Leonas7s and Los Leones7s.
De Matías took charge of Las Leonas7s in September 2017 and in these five and a half years he has participated in 22 World Serieskeeping the condition core team of the Selection, got a European bronze in 2021 and has qualified Spain to 2 World Cupsachieving fifth place in St Francis 2018.
The change at the helm of Las Leonas7s, which will be announced shortly, seeks a new stimulus that allows the group to face the demanding challenges that await at the end of the season. The technical direction and the FER Board of Directors want thank Peter for his work and dedication in charge of the National Team and they hope to continue counting on him within the federative structures.

“Thank you to all workers and colleagues of the FER, to the previous president for counting on me for the position and to the new board for their confidence this year. Also to all the Federation and club coaches with whom I have dealt over the years seeking common goals of progress, in the most constructive way possible, based on respect and empathy.
