The pedestrian who was seriously injured on Saturday evening after a collision with a car on the Korte Vondelstraat in Alkmaar, died of his injuries in hospital.
The police say that the victim, an 86-year-old man from Oudorp, was hit by a passenger car around 7:20 p.m. The car was driven by an 81-year-old female driver from Alkmaar.
After the accident, the victim was resuscitated by emergency responders on the spot and rushed to hospital. He died of his injuries that same night.
A police spokesman said the cause of the accident is currently under investigation. The 81-year-old driver has been identified as a suspect and will be questioned at a later time, a police spokesman told NH Nieuws.
