Pedestrian (51) died in collision, victim assistance for motorist

A 51-year-old man from Oudenbosch died on Saturday night on the A4 at exit 28 – under the Roosevelt viaduct – in Bergen op Zoom in a collision. He was walking on the A4 when he was hit by a motorist.

The collision took place at around 4:30 a.m. The victim could not be resuscitated. It is not clear how the man ended up on the road.

Detour
The police are investigating. The A4 from Antwerp to Rotterdam was closed for hours between Hoogerheide and Zoomland because of this investigation. Traffic was diverted.

The driver is a 57-year-old man from Tholen. He was not under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication. His car has been impounded for investigation. He was checked at the scene by paramedics and taken home. Victim Support has been called in for him.
