Around 9:25 p.m., the fire brigade received the first report of a fire at Leopoldplein in Nieuwpoort. Fireworks had been set off, causing a fire in the dunes. The fire remained limited. Then it remained quiet until two minutes before midnight, when a garbage bin caught fire due to smoldering paper and cardboard. That incident also took place in Nieuwpoort, this time in Henegouwenstraat.
At 00:22 and 00:28 there were two small fires in Ypres. The first was in the Astridpark on Blauweleliestraat due to smoldering remains of fireworks. The second was caused by fireworks boxes that caught fire against a bus stop in Oud Krijgerslaan.
In Vlamertinge the fire brigade then had to go out to pick up an injured dog in Vlamertinge and a little later a report came in of a runaway dog in Dikkebus.
At 1.30 am the fire brigade intervened for the last time at the intersection of Veurnestraat and Franslaan in Nieuwpoort. There was also a rubbish bin on fire.
