Paul Weller sues his tax law firm for discrimination. After saying, this hired the cooperation with the musician that Israel committed a genocide in Gaza.
The military conflict between Israel and Hamas is still ongoing and the famine in Palestine is continuously worsening in front of the world. According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, at least 62,004 Palestinians have been killed in the inside since October 2023.
Israel’s government under Benjamin Netanyahu rejects the allegations of the genocide and denies that he committed war crimes.
Musicians criticize Israel for gaza policy
More and more celebrities are using their awareness to point out the dangerous situation in the Middle East. Paul Weller is one of those who publicly positioned herself to the humanitarian disaster in Gaza. Most recently, the Brit played a concert with a Palestine flag over its guitar amplifier and often expressed its support for Palestine.
He was “against genocide and ethnic cleansing”, as he will not tire of emphasizing. In 2024 he appeared at the “Gig for Gaza” event in the Brixton Academy in addition to Kneecap, Primal Scream and Paloma Faith. At the show, over £ 125,000 (approx. € 145,000) was collected and donated for aid measures. In October, Weller will be there again at “Gig for Gaza” in the London troxy.
Harris & Trotter end ratio
So far, no one has bothered by Weller’s political positioning. Nobody, except for his Harris & Trotter tax office. After more than 30 years of collaboration, this surprisingly cited her services for Weller after he publicly stated that Israel committed a genocide in the Gaza Strip.
However, the 67-year-old did not achieve the news about the termination of the relationship in an official letter, but in a short text message via WhatsApp. In this, a partner of the law firm justified the step with the fact that they could not work with someone who was external “anti-Israeli views”. Everyone has the right to their own opinion, it said, but the Jewish roots of the company and its partners are not compatible with the political views of the “Godfather of Britpop”.
For Weller, the termination of the contractual relationship is a clear case of discrimination due to its political attitude. Now he announced that he would proceed legally and donate all financial revenues to aid organizations in the coastal strip.
“I think people [in Gaza] A right to self -determination, dignity and protection in accordance with international law, and I believe that Israel commits a genocide of them. This has to be named significantly, ”said the singer. He also added:“ To silence those who pronounce this truth is not just censorship – it is complicity ”.
Artistic positioning in the social field of tension?
The conflict between Harris & Trotter and the former bandaid guitarist has thus reached a political level: This is not just a conflict between contractual partners, but the question of freedom of expression within the music industry.
Anyone who pronounces for Palestine is sanctioned in one way or another – this is also shown by the Civil protests in the USA. Weller clearly emphasizes the increasing pressure of public personalities, especially musicians: inside, actors: interior and athletes: inside, to show themselves more or less socially compliant: “We are increasingly observing efforts to marginalize those who show solidarity with the population of Gaza.”
In the past few months, more and more stars have been commenting on the catastrophic situation in Palestine and demanding an end to the war. It will be shown whether the lawsuit against Wellers Tax Chancellery is followed by other Pro Palestine artists.
