It’s very Christmassy – apparently also for Paul McCartney. The Beatle used a concert on the weekend of the third Advent as an opportunity for “Wonderful Christmastime”.

“Wonderful Christmastime”: Rarely played Christmas favorite

Paul McCartney brought Christmas cheer to the Co-op Live venue in Manchester during a performance last Saturday, December 14th. So he played the rarely performed song “Wonderful Christmastime”. McCartney last performed the single, originally released in 1979, six years ago. Now he has received support from children from the “You Should Be Dancing Theater Academy”. Fan-shot videos of the show can be found online.

Before the concerts at the end of 2018, at which Paul McCartney last played the song, it had only recently been performed on the “Tonight Show” in 2016. When it was released in 1979, it was something of a comeback track – McCartney’s first solo single after an eight-year hiatus. “Eat At Home” was released in 1971. The following year, 1980, his second solo album “McCartney II” was released, from which “Wonderful Christmastime” was already a release.

Has Paul McCartney’s actor been confirmed for the biopic?

When it comes to the Beatles, the planned biopics recently made news. Director Sam Mendes, who previously made the “James Bond” films “Skyfall” and “Spectre”, wants to make four films about the band. Three of the four musicians are said to be about to be permanently lined up. So far, Joseph Quinn (“Stranger Things”) is being discussed as an actor for George Harrison, Barry Keoghan (“The Banshees Of Inisherin”) as an actor for Ringo Starr and Paul Mescal (“Aftersun”) as the embodiment of Paul McCartney. Filming is scheduled to begin in summer 2025; Mendes said he expects work until mid-2028.
