“The Boys of Dungeon Lane”, Paul McCartney’s 18th solo album, is in the starting blocks. After five years, the singer’s new record will be released on May 29th.
One of the highlights is a collaboration with Ringo Starr called “Home To Us”. The two former Beatles teamed up for a duet for the first time since the band’s breakup. The single was released on May 8th and marked a first in the drummer’s long career.
Because he is considered a contributor to the song, Starr now has his first entry in the list of the top 100 best-selling songs in the UK. “Home To Us” narrowly missed the top 40 of the Official Singles Downloads chart, but placed at a very respectable 42nd place.
“Home To Us” was almost a flop by McCartney standards
Of course, the now 85-year-old has 16 hits in this category together with the Beatles (and most of them climbed higher than number 42, with “Now And Then” from 2023 even reaching the top), but since digital listening has been recorded in this form, Ringo has never been able to advance further in the charts with his songs.
For Macca, however, “Home To Us” is just one of many successful titles. This marks his tenth bestseller in the official single download charts. However, compared to other songs by McCartney (with two top 10 entries), the single is not particularly successful.
“Days We Left Behind”, the first release from “The Boys of Dungeon Lane”, was downloaded and listened to much more often – it reached number 17. This also applies to streaming. Here on Spotify it is 2.7 million to 660,000 for “Days We Left Behind” compared to “Home To Us”.
If you include not only downloads, but also sales of CDs, cassettes and vinyl, then the joint duet with Paul McCartney is already Ringo Starr’s fifth solo hit on the island.
