Paul de Leeuw is severely punished in Today Inside because of his show in which he travels with the elderly with dementia. You shouldn’t use it for TV, says Johan Derksen. “Disgraceful.”
After the Ranking the Stars debacle, Paul de Leeuw is now on the air with a program in which he travels with the elderly with dementia, namely A Forgettable Beautiful Journey. The premiere was last night and Johan Derksen was also one of the viewers, but he did not enjoy it at all. In fact, he’s overtaking Today Inside really hard at Paul.
Disgraceful
Johan thinks it is a disgusting program from Omroep MAX. “I watched Paul de Leeuw in amazement. I think it is such a degrading program. He goes on holiday with people who have dementia and that is scoring on the backs of sick people.”
He continues: “Great viewing figures, making money with the production company, but if you want to do something like that, it is very noble if you do it without cameras. Then you just do something with those people. But this is so over the top. I think it is dehumanizing and I think it is a real shame that Jan Slagter dares to broadcast this.”
Different theme
What does TV authority Tina Nijkamp think? “It is yet another program about a certain disease. Alzheimer’s is a theme that is very common at the NPO. I think that the NPO can also take a broader view. They also do a lot with the mentally handicapped, poverty programs, drug programs. These are very often the same themes.”
It seems that Tina is extra careful because MAX boss Jan hates her and is always very vindictive. She concludes nuanced: “I also think, I have to be honest, that I think: should there be another program about that? Let’s tackle a different theme for once. Look further than your nose.”
