Patty Brard did not want to come to the Shownieuws studio last night, after colleague Ellemieke Vermolen got a tree on her car while driving. “That comes very close.”
Yesterday it was very stormy in our country. Videos appeared on social media of people who were bothered by the wind. There was also a video (see below) of a black Mini that suddenly got a fallen tree on the roof while driving through an Amsterdam street. It only became really special when a celebrity turned out to be in it.
Ellemie in shock
None other than Ellemieke Vermolen was in the car. She was in our country to be a guest at HLF8 and Shownieuws. She didn’t see that tree coming. “I was on the phone with the editors of Shownieuws. Via bluetooth, but you’re not working on it. You don’t look left and right to see if something is happening. You focus forward.”
It’s a good thing she didn’t see that tree fall, says Ellemieke. “So my mother says: ‘If you had seen that tree, you would have put on your brakes and that tree would have hit you.’”
Patty cancels
Patty Brard thought it was an intense movie, but when Ellemieke turned out to be the driver, she immediately canceled Shownieuws. “This is the reason that Patty and also Natacha (Harlequin, ed.) are not there,” said Bart Ettekoven at the desk.
Bart understands very well. “We received this message and the video immediately passed by in our group chat. Then you think three times before you get in the car. It sounds very cliché, but then it comes very close. A few minutes earlier, someone had also died in a fatal accident around the corner from me in Amsterdam.”

That’s why Bart didn’t even dare to leave the house. They were all terrified. The sweat of fear dripped from that group chat. “Then I think: do you have to risk your life to go out for a TV program at night?”
Heroic as he is, Bart decided to inform the Netherlands about the latest show news. “Around 9:30 pm I saw all those other programs; VI was even an audience. Then I zapped to Beau and there was also an audience. Then I thought: then I’m going to drive too.”
Makeup
Fortunately, the men are doing well at Shownieuws. “Natacha and Patty are not here, because the women always have to be there much earlier (because of the make-up, especially Patty, ed.). Actually when the storm was at its worst. The ladies usually arrive here around 7pm. But as men we all come in much later.”
In the end Ellemieke was not at the desk either. “I’m lying in my bed and have drunk a bottle of red wine,” she said during the broadcast.
Everyone is very scared. Hopefully they have calmed down a bit in the group chat of Shownieuws.
