Laine hit the puck into the goal in a tied situation in the third period, with about eight minutes left in the game. The Montreal Canadiens won the match against the Detroit Red Wings with a score of 4–3.
Laine’s shot broke off defenseman Moritz Seider’s stick, and the puck continued past goaltender Cam Talbot’s glove.
