Partly subject to conditions: DFL grants Bundesliga licenses

All clubs in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga received the license for the coming season as a first step – some, however, subject to conditions or requirements.

This was announced by the DFL. A total of 47 applicants are involved in the licensing process because of possible promotion from the third division. Some clubs have to meet conditions by the beginning of June in order to be eligible to play in the event of sporting qualification.

Other clubs received the license subject to conditions, explained the DFL, which did not name the clubs concerned. In this case, it is determined which requirements must be met during the 2023/2024 season according to the license granted.

Final decision on DFL license not until mid-June

In the first instance, financial, sporting, legal and personnel-administrative criteria are checked, as well as others in relation to stadiums and, for the first time, sustainability and the Virtual Bundesliga.

The clubs can appeal against the first decision within a week, and the next round will start in early May.

The Licensing Committee’s final decision on whether to meet any conditions and grant licenses to these applicants is due in mid-June.
