“It will be warm again this weekend and that is why we have looked at an appropriate measure,” he says. “That is what resulted. This is all done in consultation with the police and the Public Prosecution Service, because this is a strict measure that you cannot simply enforce.”
In a safety risk area, the police have extra powers. For example, officers may carry out preventive searches. The measure is intended to maintain safety and tranquility, in this case on the boulevard, the beach and on the terraces of beach pavilions.
Seven arrests
The police say that seven people were arrested last weekend for, among other things, disturbing public order, assault, theft and public intoxication.
“The suspects are between 19 and 34 years old,” a spokesperson said. “They come from Amsterdam, Moerdijk and Haarlem, among others.”
Security guard assaulted with parasol stick
The Telegraph spoke earlier with a security guard who was allegedly stabbed in the face with the stick of a parasol.
Police confirm that incident.
“The victim suffered minor injuries. The suspect is a 19-year-old Amsterdam resident. The investigation into this assault is still ongoing.”
