At the end of the game, Maurizio Sarri he went to the press room where he answered the usual questions from journalists. Here are his statements.
It’s not just any victory. What does a victory like this leave behind?
“It leaves some enthusiasm because it was a match won in complicated conditions, but in the end if you look at the numbers of the match it was deservedly won. The boys were good at interpreting. The team is growing in terms of mentality: it is courageous and is tidy from a tactical point of view. The strange thing is that in terms of number of fouls committed we are the second to commit the least“.
“In my opinion they are two hasty reds. There may be extremes… but the interpretation of the regulation requires common sense. They seem like two light expulsions to me. Zaccagni touches his opponent with the outside of his ankle. They leave a bad taste in our mouths. According to the regulations, they may be allowed but common sense is needed“.
Has Noslin convinced you as a center forward in this last period?
“In certain conditions Noslin is an extraordinary center forward, but I repeat: in certain conditions. Probably if he played the first half instead of the second he would have been more uncomfortable. I’m learning its features and its use. I’m very happy with him and I also like him very much“.
It may not be the greatest team you have coached but is it the one with the most character?
“This is a team that is growing and has courage in interpreting the matches and all the negativity of this season. Lazio played matches with 8-9 players out but the team never took an alibi. This is the greatness of this team. You can have the biggest limits in the world. We’d rather be poor than not brave“.
Did Lazio win due to or thanks to the referee?
“In the first half the feeling was that we had the scoring opportunities and usually in this type of match the decisive moments are important. At the end of the first half we were already talking about a team with 10 men. Even before we had the feeling we could win it“.
Is there something wrong with these arbitrages?
“I’ve already talked about Gila’s expulsion, he was a touchy referee. As for today, I struggle to understand it: it went beyond the pure interpretation of the regulation. On Basic he even talked about reaction but he did the same thing as Noslin, who didn’t even whistle a free kick“.
Did you hope to return to Juventus? What do you think of Cuesta?
“I returned to Lazio because I had already had a good time there both in Formello and with the fans. At Juventus I lived through the year of Covid. I didn’t have this craving. I can tell you about young coaches that there will be some good ones“.
Did you expect a more dangerous Parma on the flanks?
“Patric is less considered than he is worth precisely because he gives the sensation of being less physically solid but this is not the case. After 9 months he remained on the field until the 70th. I’m happy to have found it again because it’s also important for the group. He may lose some physical battles but he is a player who gets the team going again“.
