Xavier and Leen Van Eeckhoutte, originally from Waregem and Wakken, lost their only child in the summer of last year. “Shortly after Aero turned eighteen, he indicated that he wanted to be a boy,” says Leen, Aero’s mother. “I suggested contacting the university hospital of Ghent, but Aero itself chose AZ Groeninge in Kortrijk, because it went faster there. In Ghent you first have to go through a series of conversations with psychologists and psychiatrists.”
After just one session with the doctor and psychologist, Aero was prescribed testosterone in ampule form. Much too soon, his parents think. They therefore filed a complaint against the hospital for involuntary manslaughter.
