Parents of children who died in a fire in Plesetsk, Arkhangelsk region, were previously registered for preventive care due to alcohol abuse. This was announced by the Children’s Ombudsman Elena Molchanova.

“In April last year, they were brought to administrative responsibility for the same reason, after which they were coded and were not seen in further abuse,” the press service of the regional government quotes Molchanova.

Later, the couple divorced, and the mother raised the children alone. According to the head of the Plesetsk municipal district, Igor Arsentiev, representatives of the guardianship authorities regularly visited the family. The last visit was on December 17th.

“There were no complaints from representatives of guardianship,” Igor Arsentiev emphasized. He added that the house was clean, there were no problems with nutrition, both parents participated in the upbringing, the children were characterized positively at the place of study. According to Elena Molchanova, the mother of the children was very afraid that they might be taken away from her.

Fire in a two-story residential building for several families in Plesetsk happened last night. A 37-year-old woman and her four children, aged three to 12, were killed. The preliminary cause of the fire is a stove malfunction. The Investigative Committee opened two criminal cases, which are under control in the Central Office of the TFR.
