Joel C. (27) from Eindhoven, who has been stuck for the death of baby Jayvano from Helmond since February, is allowed to leave the cell. The court in Den Bosch decided on Monday after a very emotional session. The father and mother of the deceased baby reacted furiously to the court’s decision to “release those child murderer.”
The tension was already noticeable for this first interim session. A few dozen people had gathered in the corridor, who wanted to hear exactly how this first session would go. The family certainly sees Joel C. as a culprit and supports the parents. Many people reacted emotionally to all the horrible details that could be heard in the courtroom.
Jayvano’s parents were, it turns out, last year apart after the birth of their fourth child. In the meantime, the mother with Joel C. from Eindhoven. According to the Public Prosecution Service, he was last on 2 February this year with baby Jayvano and after that it turned out to have only 3.5 -month -old baby’s heavy brain injury and thirteen broken ribs.
And that is only possible due to serious violence, according to the public prosecutor. “This injury does not fit with a home, garden and kitchen accident, but points to it Shaking Baby Syndrome“Says the officer. And according to her, the consequences of such a severe abuse also come to light and not only after a few days.
Hopital
The public prosecutor sees Joel C. as a suspect because he was the last to be with baby Jayvano, for who was weak and fell away. The child was still taken to the hospital, where it eventually died on 7 February.
The father and mother sat side by side in the front row in the full courtroom. However, the suspect Joel C. had not come and was represented by his two lawyers. Jayvano’s mother was very emotional. The father was shaking with anger and emotion during the session of more than an hour and was kept a close eye on by three agents of the public prosecutor’s office.

When the court decided to release Joel C. after a suspension, the father could no longer control himself and jumped up screaming and made his way outside. From the corridor he threatened C.’s lawyers, who were then led out through another door.
Other suspects
Those lawyers had argued for this that there could also be other suspects. Baby Jayvano would not have been tasty a day before it was taken to the hospital. And the possibility of another suspect has not yet been properly investigated. Because research can take a long time, they thought that Joel C. should no longer stay in custody.
And the court went along with that. “There are no witnesses,” the court noted. “The time when something would have happened is also not clear. The file therefore also leaves room for other scenarios and that must be investigated well.”
Brain examination
Baby Jayvano’s brain tests alone will take at least nine months. That is why the case will certainly not be able to be dealt with in terms of the summer of next year. And so the court did not think it was reasonable to hold C. for such a long time.
And so this first session ended in a Teetendal and with a lot of scolding. It became clear that the parents and the other family of baby Jayvano Joel C. see as the one who has the baby’s death on his conscience, although other sounds could also be heard in the corridor.
The next interim session in this case is on August 20.
