Zhangjiakou (dpa) – The German cross-country relays missed a medal on the final day of the Paralympics in Beijing.

In the mixed competition, Anja Wicker, Leonie Walter, Marco Maier and Nico Messinger finished fifth over 4×2.5 km. The USA was the Paralympic champion. In the open relay, the German quartet Martin Fleig, Linn Kazmaier, Alexander Ehler and Johanna Recktenwald came in eighth. Ukraine secured gold.

“It wasn’t that bad, but a medal was clearly the goal,” said Wicker: “In the end, the others were still better. We tried everything and can therefore be very satisfied.”
