After the announcement a month ago in which it announced its non-participation due to safety problems, the Italian federation has changed its mind
The Italian national paralympic swimming team will participate in the next WPS European Championships which will take place in Kocaeli, Turkey, from 7 to 12 September 2026. As stated in the note published today by the Federation: “Following the latest and definitive reassurances received from the competent authorities and the Italian Paralympic Committee, the previous restrictive position regarding the trip to Turkey has been officially rectified”.

The national team, which won the medal table in the last continental event with 63 medals in total, of which 26 were gold, will therefore be able to defend the title. After the previous communication of April 24, in which the failure to participate in the European Championships was announced due to concerns deriving from “the growing geopolitical tensions in the area”, today’s communication arrives which guarantees the presence of the Azzurri at the championships. “Having resolved the doubts relating to the safety of the trip – we read in the press release – it seemed a completely natural and necessary reaction to guarantee our selected athletes the possibility of defending the blue colors in this important continental event”.
