“The fact that it took so long (for the Meisesten could continue again, ed.) Is Corona,” says co -organizer Roos Ebbelaar. The party is only celebrated once every five years, during the anniversary year of Liberation Day. “We had to reinvent the wheel again,” says Roos, who is in a huge tent that next week.
Liberation Day New Style
The old -fashioned tour where children drive through the village on floats has been canceled because of safety. Instead, everyone was asked to decorate the village. “You come up with something like that and you are sparing: how do we get people active? And if that also succeeds, that’s fantastic. That’s what we do it for.”
In the tent comes the famous Boekerbingo, the Edwin Evers Band and a joint dinner. The latter two are completely sold out. “We’re full of Ram and Ram,” says Roos. But for the other days everyone is welcome to participate. Tonight the parties start with the Bingo and ends on 5 May, when children in the color of their neighborhood walk through the village.
