The assignment of horses for the Palio, which took place in the square, decreed who will run for which district
In Piazza del campo Everything is ready or almost for the first 2025 edition of the Palio di Sienathat of 2 July in honor of the Madonna of Provenzano. The event officially began on Monday 26 June, with The Drappellone presentation ceremonythe trophy that will be delivered to the winning district, this year made by Riccardo Manganelli. Great was the wait, however, for the day today, Sunday 29 June 2025: in the same location where the Palio will take place, the ceremony was held for the assignment of horses which will run on July 2 in the official race. The districts were able to find out what the blindfolded goddess had in store.

On July 2, 2025 there will be one New edition of the Palio di Siena. The districts of the Tuscan city will compete in the ancient equestrian carousel, a very important tradition for all the Sienese. The winning district will bring home the Drappellone or Cenciothe trophy delivered to each edition, which will pride the members of the winning group.
The race consists of Three laps of the Piazza del Campoon a tuff track traced in the ring above the shell: the district wins whose horse, with or without jockey, performs the three laps first. The race, after a series of ceremonies scheduled, will begin at 5.20 pm, with the entry into Piazza del Historic procession. The horses will come out at 7.30 pm from the podestà courtyard.
The districts

There are 17 districts in the city of Siena: Caterpillar, dragon, giraffe, porcupine, wolf, goose, eagle, snail, wave, panther, forest, tartuca, lake, Leocorno, Nicchio, Torre, Valdimonone. The rivalries have very ancient origins between the different Sienese “teams”. Not all participate in the Palio: in fact, they can participate only 10 districts. The captains of the districts, at each edition, choose the horses which are then assigned, through drawing draws, at 10 districts.

The assignments took place in what is called the day of the trafficking. After the registration of the admitted horses and the formation of the batteries, the meeting of the captains took place for the choice of the ten horses and the next assignment to the ten districts participating in the Palio: Selva, Drago, Valdimonone (on the third consecutive Palio), Lupa (on the third consecutive Palio), snail, goose (at the fourth consecutive pole), caterpillar, truck, panther and panther.
I am Three the debutants who are part of the lot of the captains, while there are two champions, the twice winner Uncle Frat and Tale and which one. Here is the division of horses for the districts of the city, with connected number of ear and thigh:
- Zenis for the Contrada della Selva (number 1 number 1, thigh number 2) ran the Palio twice
- Diosu de Campeda for the Dragon district (number 2 number 2, thigh number 5) Debutant
- Command for the Valdimonone district (number ear 3, thigh number 8) ran once the Palio
- Ares Elce for the Contrada della Lupa (number ear 4, thigh number 12) rained the palio twice
- As for the district of the snail (number 5 number 5, thigh number 14) ran twice the Palio and won it once (2 July 2019)
- Diadoro for the goose district (number 6 number 6, thigh 26) debutant
- Angel face for the Bruco district (number ear 7, thigh number 27) He ran six times the Palio
- Uncle Frat for the Tartuca district (number ear 8, thigh number 31) ran the Palio four times and won it twice (2 July 2022 and 16 August 2023, shaken)
- Dorotea downside for the district of the Coistrice (Ear number 9, thigh number 32) Debutant
- Arestetulesu for the distant district (number ear 10, thigh number 33) ran once the Palio
