Eva Jinek, after moving from America to the Netherlands, made a painting in her teenage years and that has now – after 32 years – recovered. “The then buyer is now dead.”
NPO 1 star Eva Jinek was already eleven years old when she heard that she would emigrate to the Netherlands with her father, mother and brother. She quickly became of her own, but had even more talents during her teenage years. For example, she was pretty active as an artist and she even sold a painting at a young age.
Artwork
Eva has now been reunited with one of those paintings after more than 32 years. She shows the artwork in a message on Instagram (see below). “I made this painting when I was 15 years old. At the bottom right you see my signature, the year was 1993,” she says.
“When I was a teenager, I painted a lot and I sold this work at my first exhibition in the Posthoorn in The Hague where I grew up. It was bought by the father of Joost who liked it and had it all those years in his living room. When he died in 2015, Joost inherited it.”
Curious
That Joost has contacted Eva and now they are in the photo together. “He was curious about the story behind the painting, and recently sent me a message via Insta. Last Friday we met and Joost reunited me with a painting that I made 32 years ago and had never seen it since then.”
“It is pastel chalk on paper – so soft and vulnerable – but it was still very cool thanks to the loving care of Joost and his father. When Joost unpacked the painting, I was overwhelmed by that old feeling: my fingers over the paper, want to paint. With a lot of thanks to Joost for this special meeting!”
