After having lived at odds with the new owner for a year, and even several lawsuitsthe municipality wanted to actively help the residents in their search for a new home. Many residents ended up at the campsite due to housing shorts, and finding a new roof above the head is easier said than done.

“In the past year we approached the residents of the campsite on several occasions with tips to find living space,” says Alderman Charlotte van der Meij. “One of those tips was indeed that you can temporarily find living space in a hotel or at a campsite.”

Couldn’t the municipality have expected that people who have to leave their campsite unexpectedly after years do not want to be referred to the next campsite? “I can very well imagine that it feels painful, but we really want to give these people all the options that we can offer them. And the reality commits that a temporary stay at a campsite, or in a holiday home or hotel, is part of it.”

The news that they had to leave the campsite came in very hard last January.
