Paid football clubs sound alarm about empty stadiums: “We want to be heard”

Paid football clubs insist that supporters must be welcome again in football stadiums as soon as possible. The Eredivisie CV and the first division want to admit spectators in two weeks. At the corona press conference tonight it became clear that professional sports competitions still have to do without an audience.

“We can no longer play without an audience,” it reads statement. “Last season this led to a loss of more than 100 million euros for the sector. The pace of decision-making in political The Hague is too slow. The demonstrative opening of the stadiums is the inevitable next step.”

“Professional football wants to be heard. We have always been very accommodating and cooperative, but the stretch is out. Time and again, professional football has shown that it can organize matches with the public in a responsible way: no infections, and good and thorough checks. Little or nothing is done about this in The Hague.”

Amateur sport possible again

There was good news for amateur sports. Starting tomorrow, the club can work out again, both outside and inside. Matches within clubs are allowed. A corona ticket is required for indoor sports. The 5:00 PM time limit is no longer in effect.

The KNVB is going to look at the possibilities to resume the amateur competitions. After the next weighing moment of the cabinet, which is on Tuesday 25 January, the football association will come back to this.
